Abstract (EN)
Tunisia has been home to many civilizations, from Phoenicians to Romans, from Arabs to Spaniards. It was conquered by the Ottomans in 16th century and ruled by Turks approximately for 300 years until the French occupation. Naturally, during this period the Turks had influenced the social and cultural life besides politics. Ottomans have tried to develop the region in all aspects by building cultural and scientific institu-tions such as mosques, Islamic-Ottoman social complexes, schools and zawiya. This study investigates the scientific, literal and cultural structures of Tunisia under the Ottoman rule. Firstly, we discuss the historical process of Tunisia briefly, secondly we talk through the details of Ottoman Empire, Pashas that had ruled and the period of Deys and Beys. Then, we talk about the institutions which advanced the literal and cultural levels of public. Finally, we introduce some of the litterateurs who left impression with their work, poets who stood out with their poems and linguists who have been cited by their studies.
