Abstract (EN)
This dissertation is about Nezir (vow) which was practiced widely in Ottoman Law. As a rule, it refers to an instrument of social control used by the state and based on people's pledges. In the first part of this study, in which archival documents are used, the institution of nezir was analyzed from a conceptual and historical perspective. In the second part, its legal nature was examined with respect to şer'î hukuk (Islamic law) and örfî hukuk (sultanic law). After its application areas were investigated in the third part, the manner of application of nezir was handled in the fourth part. And finally, in the fifth chapter, the study was completed by discussing the abolition of nezir.
