Abstract (EN)
This thesis delves into the demographic characteristics, economic activities, and social status of non-Muslim Ottoman subjects in Mudanya District between 1700 and 1850. The primary sources for this three-chapter study are poll tax (jizya) registers, land tax registers, population registers, court records, and various archival documents. Additionally, contemporary travelogues and research studies from the relevant literature have been consulted to supplement the primary sources. The first chapter examines the prominent features and characteristics of the non-Muslim population in Mudanya. The second chapter explores the economic activities of this non-Muslim population. The third chapter analyzes the social structure of non-Muslims in the district, focusing specifically on the Rum community, which constituted the non-Muslim population in Mudanya.
