Abstract (EN)

The subject of this thesis is Women and the Role of Women Education in Ottoman Modernization: The Example of Ahmet Mithat Efendi. The research examines the emergence of Ottoman modernization, studies for women in modernization and developments in women's education through the works of Ahmet Mithat Efendi. The study is organized in three main sections apart from the introduction and conclusion sections. In the first part of the study, the subject of modernization, the emergence and development of Ottoman modernization, and its development are examined from time to time. Here, the innovation movements in these periods and the innovations in education are examined. In the second part, the subject of women in Ottoman modernization, which constitutes the skeleton of the thesis research, is discussed. Here, the lives of some women who contributed to Ottoman modernization, the societies founded by women and the newspapers published by women were examined. In the third chapter, the subject of women and women's education in Ottoman modernization is examined through the works of Ahmet Mithat Efendi, one of the most productive writers in Turkish literature. In this section, first of all, Ahmet Mithat's life and literary personality were examined and her main works were mentioned. Finally, modernization and women are included in Ahmet Mithat's works.
