9.1 AimTo demonstrate that urine NTx values give faster respond than BMD values in controlling the effectiveness of the osteoporosis treatment.9.2. Patients and MethodAmong the patients who applied to Gazi University Hospital Department Orthopedics and Traumatology from March 2006 to December 2008, the ones with osteoporoses and who didn?t get any kind of osteoporoses treatment before and whose secondary osteoporoses causes are eliminated are accepted to this study.The proper osteoporosis treatment was given to patients. Initial, 3rd, 6th, and 12th month urine values and initial and 1st year lumbar vertebra and femur neck BMD values are taken. In the study, the conditions of 49 female and 11 male, total 60 patients with an average age of 65,7 are analyzed. 29 patients were given surgical treatment and 31 patients were given conservative treatment.9.3 FindingsUrine NTx values of the patients decreased % 38,82 in the 3rd ; % 51,99 in the 6th and % 66,41 in the 12th month. Lumbar vertebra BMD increased %20,7 and femur neck increased % 11,9 at the end of the 1st year. The effect of the medication, the diagnoses, BMI?s influence on urinary NTx and BMD are evaluated. According to the statistical evaluation, it is shown that there is a meaningful relation only between BMI and initial BMD. Besides being statistically meaningful, it is observed that calcitonin doesn?t have an effect on femur neck BMD and that strontium ranelat decreases urine NTx values faster and more radically.9.4 ConclusionUrine NTx values respond to osteoporosis treatment faster than BMD values and this facilitates the evaluation and observation of the effectiveness of the treatment.
