Green star application in hotel management

Since its existence, mankind has been living in harmony with nature and has benefited from every kind of nature. This situation makes the human being the most important user of natural resources. In progress time, changes in living standards have created different needs for people. People have started to show no interest in tourism activities in order to realize their needs such as traveling, having fun, relaxing. In the following years, participation in tourism activities increased with time. This increase has also brought about an increase in environmental problems. In order to prevent environmental problems, the necessity of ensuring sustainability in tourism has been brought to the agenda. In order to achieve this sustainability, various studies have been started by various countries around the world. In Turkey, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey has led these projects to the "Green Star" project and has been making incentive efforts to ensure that the criteria for environmental protection are implemented. With this study, it is aimed to demonstrate that the measures taken to protect the environment and protect the environment contribute not only to the economy but also to the economy of the country and to be a model for all other facilities. In the study prepared in the direction of the mentioned aims, the case study was used from the qualitative research designs. The sample selected for the study is the Holiday Inn Bursa Hotel, which is based on the principles of environmental awareness as of the construction stage and is located in the province of Bursa, which received the Green Star certificate in 2017. Face to face deep-interview technique was used in the study. The data on the process of getting the certificate of the selected hotel, and afterwards, its economic benefits to the hotel management and to economy were collected, interpreted and presented in titles.
