The relationship of sentence repeat process and working memory in the evaluation of language skills of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

The purpose of the study is to study the relationship of the sentence repetition process used in language evaluation of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with the study memory. For this purpose 4-7, 2021 children and 20 children with typical development (TD) from kindergarten and elementary schools in Kahramanmaras province between December and February 2022 were employed by the OSB diagnosed child with TEDIL equivalent age ratings of 4-7 years. When operating memory performance is measured with a meaningless word repetition list (AST), sentence repetition performance is measured by Aksu-Koç, Taylan and Bekman (2002). Based on the data collected, the performance and operating memory performance of children with ASD diagnostics in sentence repetition compared to TGG children. As a result of the analysis, children with ASD diagnostics and TD have demonstrated similarities in the performance of the working memory, while children with ASD diagnostic performed significantly poorly in the sentence repetition process. When examining the relationship between sentence repetition and study memory, the TD found that children have no relationship, and the ASD-diagnosed children have a strong and positive relationship. According to the results of this study, the sentence repetition process, which is thought to be measuring language skills in the field, has been found to be related to language skills in children with ASD diagnostics as well as to the performance of the working memory. As a result, the errors displayed in the sentence repetition process were examined and the language structures and types of errors that children with the ASD diagnosis experienced compared to the TD children were tried to determine.
