Comparison of the effect of autogenic and allogenic platelet rich fibrin on wound healing on an animal model

Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) obtained from different donors on tooth extraction socket healing and to evaluate the appropriate PRF selection in clinical conditions by histopathological comparison. In our study, a control group and two experimental groups, autogenic PRF and allogeneic PRF, were formed. A total of 24 Wistar female rats, 8 in each experimental group, were used. One of the upper incisors of the rats in all groups was extracted. Sockets in the control group were left empty. The PRF obtained from the rats' own blood in the autogenous group was placed into the socket. In the allogeneic group, PRF obtained from different rat blood was placed into the socket. For histopathological examination, sections stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE) and Safranin were evaluated histologically by binocular light microscope. In control, autogenous and allogeneic groups; osteoblastic activity, osteocyte formation, osteoclastic activity, inflammation, vessel dilatation and congestion were evaluated histopathologically. Kruskal Wallis test was used for statistical analysis. Statistical significance level was accepted as p<0.05. When all groups were compared in terms of osteoblastic activity and osteocyte formation, no statistically significant difference was found between the groups, although the median values of the autogenous and allogeneic groups were higher (p>0.05). When osteoclastic activity was compared, although the median values of the autogenous and allogeneic groups were lower, no statistically significant difference was found between the groups (p>0.05). When inflammation and vascular congestion were compared, all groups showed similar median values and no statistically significant difference was found (p>0.05). Considering these results, it is thought that allogeneic PRF may have similar effects to autogenous PRF. However, we believe that more studies should be conducted in which allogeneic PRF application and inflammation are evaluated at the cellular level with further histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations.
