The effect of stem cell dose and body mass index on engraftment in multiple myeloma and lymphoma patients who previously had autologous stem cell transplantation

Abstract (EN)
Aim: In this study we planned to retrospectively show relationship between number of CD34 (+) stem cell and body mass index how affect duration of hospital stay with engraftment time at the patient who get auto-HSCT for multiple myeloma or lymphoma. Material and Method: We studied 302 MM patients and lymphoma patients who get auto-HSCT at Inonu University Turgut Özal Medical Center at Bone Marrow Transplant Unit between January 2015-November 2019. We research that patients retrospectively via hospital data server and patients special files. Results: Patients demographic datas, BMI, CD34 (+) stem cell dosage for treatment, neutrophil and platelet engraftment time as well as duration after transplantation were examined. When all patient groups were evaluated, the mean platelet engraftment was 14.06±4.4days, the mean neutrophil engraftment was 11.5±2.6 days and that patients mean hospital stay was 16±4 days.We divided patients into three groups as <3×106/kg, 3-5×106/kg and >5×106/kg according to the CD34 (+) stem cell dose given to the patient.The dose of infused CD34 (+) stem cell increasing directly affected shortening of the duration neutrophil-platelet engraftment time and with length of hospital stay (p=0.001). According to the BMI, when the patients were divided into four groups as weak, normal, overweight and obese no significant statistical results were obtained between BMI and engraftment time and length of hospital stay (p>0.05). Conclusion: In patients with OKHN, while CD34 (+) stem cell dose increased, the duration of engraftment and hospital stay after transplantation decreased (p=0.001), there was no significant relationship between BMI and duration of engraftment and hospital stay (p>0.05).
