Abstract (EN)

Objective: Since the study has two stages, it has two purposes: The purpose of the first stage is to determine the nursing care needs of women hospitalized with the diagnosis of ovarian cancer. The purpose of the second stage is to examine the effects of preoperative education on care outcomes for women diagnosed with adnexal mass. Method: In the first stage, which is a descriptive type, a Form for Determining Care Needs of Patients with Ovarian Cancer was applied to 100 women hospitalized with the diagnosis or suspicion of ovarian cancer. In the second phase which is a randomized controlled trial, 24 female were included in the intervention group and 22 women were included in the control group. Relaxation Focused Nursing Program was applied to the intervention group, starting two days before the surgery and until the day of surgery. In both groups, the Trait Anxiety Scale in the morning on preoperative first day, the State Anxiety Scale, the VAS pain, spirometer volume in the morning and evening on preoperative first and second day and the evening on postoperative first day, and the Richards-Campbell Sleep Questionnaire in the morning on preopertive first and second day were evaluated. While the information level of the intervention group was evaluated in the morning and evening on preoperative first and second day, the information level of the control group was evaluated in the morning on preoperative first day and in the evening on preoperative second day. Results: In the first stage, the most important needs of women in the hospital process were determined as improving the quality of sleep, reducing fatigue, getting information face to face, spending time in the hospital with their spouses and children, coping with their negative perceptions about female roles and motherhood. The Relaxation-Focused Nursing Program practiced in the second stage significantly reduced the VAS pain and State Anxiety Scale mean scores of women in the intervention group compared to time (p <0.05), and the state anxiety and pain scores were statistically higher in the control group (p <0.05). The mean scores of the information level of women in the intervention group were statistically significantly higher than the women in the control group (p<0.05), but there was no significant difference between the spirometer volume, quality of sleep, and nursing satisfaction scores (p> 0.05). Conclusion: Women who are hospitalized with suspicion / diagnosis of ovarian cancer have many care needs in the areas of physiological, self-concept, interdependence and role function. In the second stage, it has been determined that the Relaxation Focused Nursing Program reduces anxiety and increases the information level in the preoperative period.
