Abstract (EN)
This study has been prepared with the aim of revealing the criteria on which the classification of sentence types (gapning turlari)-a subfield of syntax-has been constructed within Uzbek grammar studies. In this context, grammar books and scholarly articles authored by Uzbek linguists have been used as primary sources for the sentence type classifications examined. For the evaluation of sample sentences found in these classifications, the novella Meros (Heritage) by Pirimqul Qådirov, one of the authors who reflects contemporary Uzbek in its most straightforward form, has been utilized as the main source text. The study consists of five chapters. In the first chapter, the aim, significance, methodology, and main research approach of the study are explained, along with a detailed account of the extent to which Uzbek linguists were consulted. Additionally, a comprehensive table presents the classification headings of Uzbek sentence types and systematically indicates which researcher has addressed which sub-topic. The second chapter provides a general overview of contemporary Uzbek, followed by information about the life, literary identity, and the language and content of Pirimqul Qodirov's novella Meros. The third chapter focuses on the classification of Uzbek sentence types, supported by example sentences selected from Meros, which have been translated into Turkish. In the fourth chapter, the text of the novella written in Cyrillic Uzbek has been transcribed into the Latin script based on the established transcription scheme for Uzbek Cyrillic. The fifth and final chapter presents a general evaluation of the study, summarizes the findings, and discusses the study's contribution to the existing literature.
