Özcan Ergüder's storytelling

Özcan Ergüder who is one of the storytellers of the 1950s, his position and innovative attitude in Turkish storytelling, are discussed within the scope of this thesis. In order to base the research on a solid ground, the concept of modernism has been explained in general terms and the projection of the modernist story in Turkish literature has been evaluated. The stories in the Masquerade Ball and Other Stories were opened for discussion with the titles of the world of meaning and narrative techniques. When the content of the stories is examined, the themes of unhappiness, loneliness, death, violence and sexuality come to the fore. However, the concept of the Oedipus complex, which is understood to have been thought about in his stories, since Ergüder is a writer who also feeds on psychoanalytic theory; The fantastic elements he used and his stories reflecting political and social issues were also discussed within the scope of the content. The concepts of space and time, which he constructed in accordance with the content, were also evaluated around the concept of modernism. He has revealed his originality by dealing with unusual subjects or writing known subjects in different ways. Ergüder, who has successfully placed the basic building blocks of the modernist story in his texts, has succeeded in establishing a unique style with his innovations in both content and form. Although the influence of Sait Faik Abasıyanık is clearly visible in his early stories, he succeeded in creating his own voice in his later stories and revealed his originality with the poetic language he used. In this study, it has been revealed that Özcan Ergüder's innovative attitude is emphasized and he creates his own style with the way he handles the subjects he deals with.
