The impact of an academi̇c success and age on profession and values in secondary education institutions

The individual success and happiness hinge on their choice of profession. The lifestyle and the way that they will determine a relationship with the society and also positioning themselves in the society are mostly related to this decision. One of the main objectives of the secondary education institutions is to prepare an individual for a profession suitable to their potential in line with their interests, abilities and values and to ensure that they are productive in the society. Another meaning to arrange for the higher education program is to prepare the person for the profession. Therefore, individuals are faced with an important decision-making situation. During this process individuals require to prepare and discover about themselves and the profession; the function and the necessity of that occupation additionally in this case, this is a situation that requires vocational guidance and psychological services. The development of profession and the clarification of choice that was made for occupation and also making a logical and rational decision about the profession is related to the personal development and follows a similar improvement process. By the making wrong professional decisions, some people change their departments, drop out of colleges or prefer about different occupations outside of their professional background after their graduation, that leads to a loss in the country's economy. In this research, the career guidance activities and the career selection process were examined. In order to contribute to the organization of the support services provided in this process, KDE (Self-Assessment Inventory) was applied to 300 students from the preparatory, 9th, 10th and 11th grades at FMV Private Ayazaga Isik High School besides the results were evaluated with the SPSS program. The ability, interest and scores of values were correlated with the students' academic achievements at the end of the term, additionally they were examined due to their gender, age, and significance levels. With the results obtained, it was concluded that the gender is an effective in both the development of professional interests, the values, abilities and also the decision processes. Although the Academic achievement also have an effect on a certain level of abilities, interests and values it was concluded that individual's age did not have an effect on this process and there was no significant difference between the ages.
