Investigation of population, habitation and economic activities in Pamukova

The science of geography has been defined many times and many works have been written in this field. Based on these definitions, there are opinions that geography consists of two separate subjects as physical and human geography and this situation caused these subjects to be perceived as sub-disciplines of geography. Yigit mentions two basic elements that distinguish the sciences from each other. One of them is the subject and the other is the method. Physical and human geography subjects are the thoughts expressed by the method of analysis within the framework of systematic (thematic) geography. However, it is also possible to deal with the events and facts in question with the method of synthesis (composition). The concept of 'field' emerges in such studies. While geography is divided into two as physical and human geography in terms of subject, it is also divided into systematic (or general) and regional (or special) geography in terms of method. Although many opinions have been put forward until today, it is more accepted today that physical and human elements are always in interaction, affect each other significantly and are inseparable in geography and these elements are complementary, not opposite or alternative to each other (Yiğit, A., s.584). This study provides detailed information about the population, settlement and economic characteristics by also considering the physical conditions of Pamukova district in Sakarya province, which is located in the South Marmara region. The location of the research area, the advantages it offers depending on physical and human factors have been the main factors in choosing the district as a thesis field.
