Abstract (EN)

Integrated photonic devices play an essential role with the advancement of technology in a wide range of applications, from optical interconnections and sensors to medical imaging systems and even technologies involving quantum mechanics. Accurate sensing of light in the desired spectral region, accurate and lossless transmission, high efficiency and durability have become the features sought in today's technology. However, in the light of production technologies and increasing material knowledge, it is crucial to protect these features in technological devices that are aimed to be miniaturized. However, these photonic device design methods are unfortunately far behind other fields such as digital electronics and aerospace technologies. The most important reason for this is that optimization, computing power and production techniques have only developed in the last decade and are intended to be used for these devices specifically. Photonic devices were largely hand-designed using a combination of analytical theories and manual parameter scans, resulting in limited libraries created by changing only specific parameters, thus designs are made on existing devices. As a result, devices ranging from a few tens of micrometers to hundreds of micrometers had to be designed, and this became unable to meet today's needs. On the other hand, inverse design is an approach that will meet the high performance, low power consumption and footprint targets that are needed today.
