Abstract (EN)

This research was conducted to examine the age and gender related changes in the cerebral ventricles in the pediatric period by examining the MR brain images of 200 healthy individuals aged 0-18 years from the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) archive images of Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University. The study was divided into four groups, as individuals between the ages of 0-2, 3-6, 7-11, and 12-18. In the study, the axial measurement of the third ventricle (AMTV), the anterior width of the cornu frontalis (AWCF), the posterior width of the cornu frontalis (PWCF), the width of the cornu frontalis (WCF), the oblique diameter of the cornu frontalis (ODCF), the maximum transverse diamater of the skull (MTDS), the vertical diamater of the skull (VDS), the anterioposterior width of the right cornu temporalis (APWRCT), the anterioposterior width of the left cornu temporalis (APWLCT), the anterioposterior width of the forth ventricle (APWFV), the transverse width of the forth ventricle (TWFV), the evans index (EI) were measured. Statistically significant differences were determined between the genders on the results of the AWCF, PWCF, APWRCT, APWLCT variables for the 1st group, for the 2nd group AWCF, PWCF variables, MTDS variable for the 3rd group, and the AWCF, PWCF, WCF, APWRCT, MTDS, VDS, TWFV variables for the 4th group. While the there was no change on the WCF variable with age, the dimensions of the AWCF, APWFV, TWFV, ODCF, APWLCT, VDS, MTDS parameters increased with age but the EI and AMTV variables decreased in time. Finally, the dimensions of the APWRCT parameter increased first, then a decrease was determined with the age. The results hereby were in resembance with, and contributed greatly to the literature.
