Abstract (EN)
In this study we aimed to investigate the association of RANK, RANKL, OPG, IL-17, IL-23 gene polymorphisms with chronic periodontitis and periimplantitis patients in Turkish population. 70 patients with chronic periodontitis, 70 patients with periimplantitis, 60 periodontally healthy patients were enrolled in the study. Saliva samples obtained from subjects and DNA isolation was completed. The DNA was transferred into 96 division plates of Real Time PCR technique. Differences in the frequencies of alleles and genotypes were analyzed. The study results showed that patients carrying the CC genotype of OPG rs2073618 were more likely to have periodontitis and periimplantitis than GG genotype carriers. Comparison of alleles and genotypes of other molecules, RANK rs35211496, RANKL rs9533156, IL-17 rs10484879, IL-23 rs11209026 genes between the chronic periodontitis and periimplantitis groups with the control group did not reveal any significant differences. The results of this study indicate that CC genotype of rs2073618 OPG gene polymorphism was significantly associated with periimplantitis, can be considered as a risk determinant for periimplantitis and chronic periodontitis. In our study we investigated RANK, RANKL, OPG, IL17 and IL-23 pro inflammatory cytokines in Turkish population with periimplantitis and chronic periodontitis patients; a study similar to our research has not been investigated yet. With the high risk factors periimplantitis has an open research area, patients with high risk should be investigated before implant therapy in order to distinguish the relationship between periimplantitis and gene polymorphisms.
