Özet (EN)

This study was held to evaluate the phlebitis development and effecting factors in thepatients during intravenous catheter placement.Study was performed in DEU Medical Hospital Surgery Department. Data wascollected with questionaire and observation form by evaluating the inserting site each 24hours. Totally 568 catheters of 355 cases were evaluated who were hospitalized in surgeryclinic and took medicine and fluid therapy via the peripherie catheter.Phlebitis development rate was 54.5%. It was found that replacement place, anatomicregion, frequency of utility, duration of the catheter in the vessel, method of fluid delivery, type of the fluid and frequency of medicine delivery were effective in phlebitic development. There wasn?t any correlation between the phlebitis development and age, gender, cathetergauge, medicine types, duration and delivery of the therapeutic agents. Logistic regressionanalysis showed that, duration of the catheter in the vessel, type of the fluid and frequency ofmedication are the most effective factors. It is recommended for nurses to evaluate the patients for phlebitic factors during theIV therapy and observation for this factors.KEY WORDS : Peripheric intravenous catheter, Phlebitis, effecting factors.
