Abstract (EN)
98EFFECT OF PLATELET RICH PLASMA ON PERIPHERAL NERVEREGENERATION IN REPAIR OF PERIPHERAL NERVE INJURIESDr. Yakup SARIGÜNEYLWe aimed to study the effect of platelet rich plasma (PRP) that includes concentratedgrowth factors in peripheral nerve healing.AForty Wistar type female rats were used for surgical procedures. We studied on theright hind-limbs of the animals under ketamine-HCl anesthesia. The animals were separatedTIinto five groups. Group 1 (n=4): The right sciatic nerve was only dissected from the sciaticnotch to the bifurcation. In all other surgical groups, the nerve was transected at 1 cmproximal to the bifurcation with a sharp pair of microscissors. The nerve repair was performedENas follows: Group 2 (n=8): Epineural repair with 2 sutures, Group 3 (n=8): Epineural repairwith 6 sutures, Group 4 (n=10): Epineural repair with 2 sutures + PRP and Group 5 (n=10):Epineural repair with 6 sutures + PRP.Walking track analysis and electromyographic studies were performed 3 monthspostoperatively. Thereafter, animals were sacrificed and histomorphometric analyses of theDmuscle and nerve tissue were done. The results of sciatic function indices revealed a statistically significant differencebetween the Group 2 and 5 (p=0.02). The groups that were exposed to PRP have shorterFIlatancy time in electromyography (p<0.02) and thicker myelin layer in histological evaluation(p<0.01). Group 4 and 5 were favorable than Group 2 and 3 when evaluated for epineural scartissue index, muscle weights and histomorphometric analysis of muscle, but the differencesNbetween the groups were not significant (p>0.05).In conclusion, PRP is a product that can be easily prepared and the result show thatOsingle injection of platelet concentrate can improve nerve healing in rats.C
