Turkish armed forces in the Korean War within the framework of periodic intelligence reports

War is a concept whose scope and methods have changed over the centuries, especially the Korean War. In the ongoing power struggles between states throughout history, it has been seen that the most effective weapon is information and its correct use. Intelligence has maintained its status as one of the most effective methods of accessing information throughout the ages. While in the past there was talk of a war that could only be won with cannon and rifles; Today, we see that concepts such as intelligence, counter-intelligence, and intelligence activities have gained importance in order to both win the war and ensure the continuation of peace. Since its establishment until today, the Turkish Armed Forces have carried out various missions abroad in different geographies and weather conditions, without the close support of our country. In order to carry out these tasks successfully, many factors must be directed correctly and at the right time. The Korean War, which was the first war that the Republic of Turkey would fight in a different geography, emerged in the mid-1950s as disagreements and hostilities between a single nation but two states with different thoughts and ideologies. In particular, North Korea wanted to become a state covering the entire Korean Peninsula. Although the United Nations established a commission between these two governments to resolve the issue peacefully, it was not successful. The problems between these two governments turned into a hot war on the morning of June 25, 1950. At the most critical time of the Korean War, the Turkish Brigade joined the war. One of the most important factors that determine the fate of wars is intelligence activities. The Cold War period was a turning point for world and European intelligence. This situation also occurs in the Korean War. All states participating in the war knew how to use military intelligence in multiple ways and prioritized counter-intelligence activities. The Turkish Brigade continued its reconnaissance and intelligence activities in all regions where it served until the last moment of the war. In this study, by touching on the phases of the Korean War, the conceptual origin and history of intelligence, we tried to look at the Korean War from a different perspective within the framework of "periodic intelligence reports" in the archives of the General Staff Personnel Department, Military History and Strategic Studies Department (ATASE).
