The effect of perioded core exercises on some motoric characteristics and service speed and accuracy rate in young volleyball players

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 10-week period of core exercises on selected motoric characteristics, service speed and accuracy in young male volleyball players. Twenty-two of the 42 volleyball players between the ages of 15-17 participated in the study formed the experimental group. In addition to the volleyball training, core exercises were performed 3 days a week for 10 weeks, while the 21 athletes in the control group continued their volleyball training only. Before and after the training program, selected motoric characteristics and service accuracy and speed ratio measurements were taken from the athletes. According to the pre-test and post-test data of the exercises performed after a 10-week training period, the agility, vertical jump, standing long jump, 60 sec shuttle, 60 sec push-ups, plank, back isometric endurance, lower extremity balance characteristics and service speed and accuracy the effects on the rates were investigated. Shapiro-Wilk and Levene's tests were used to determine whether the data showed a normal and homogeneous distribution. According to the statistical results between the control and experimental groups, it was found that the data showed normal distribution. T test was used for independent samples comparison and Paired Samples T test was used for comparison of dependent groups (p <0.05). When the pre-test and post-test values of the experimental and control groups were compared, the agility, vertical jump, standing long jump, shuttle, push-ups, plank, back isometric endurance, lower extremity right balance (anterior, posterolateral, posteromedial, right) foot balance), lower extremity left balance (anterior, posterolateral, posteromedial, left foot balance), service speed and hit rate values were found to be significantly different (p <0.05), but no significant difference was found between body fat percentage values (p>0.05). There was a significant difference between the lower extremity right (posterolateral, posteromedial) and lower extremity left posteromedial values of the control group athletes (p <0.05 ), but no significant difference was found in the other parameters (p> 0.05). According to the results of the study, 10-week periodical core exercises applied to young male volleyball players between the ages of 15-17 contributed to the improvement of performance values with selected motoric characteristics and service speed and hit rate.
