Prevention of heat losses using newly produced thermal insulation materials in petroleum-natural gas and geothermal well

Abstract (EN)

In the thesis, using newly and locally produced insulation materials, It is aimed to minimize the damage to the pipes and equipment in the bare pipes exposed to high temperature gradientand the energy costs and to reduce the heat losses in the well equipment and rods used in oil, natural gas and geothermal fields with different properties and to eliminate the damages in tubing materials by preventing pipe blockages especially in oil production fields with high viscosity nano-newtons. It is aimed to produce domestic and new thermal insulation materials that can meet the aforementioned needs, provide high thermal insulation properties, by using materials such as perlite and boron, which our country has world class reserves in welding care. In our study, primarily insulation samples with different properties were produced and the mechanical and thermal properties of the samples were determined according to ASTM and EN standards. Then, the test properties of the produced samples were compared and the K1 sample, which showed the average properties of all samples, was chosen as the pipe coating material. At the last stage, the system model of the existing oil production field was created using the Ansys fluent program, and the heat losses of the pipes dressed in different thicknesses were determined. According to the mechanical and thermal test results, it was observed that the compressive strength and specific heat values of the insulation material (K1) produced according to the selected reference material (G class concrete) used in existing oil wells decreased by 99% and 27%, respectively, while there was a 25% increase in the thermal diffusivity value. Besides, the thermal conductivity and density values of the produced insulation samples were compared, and it was determined that there was a decrease of 92% and 91%, respectively. According to the Ansys modeling results, the petrolium outlet temperature in the production pipes was 23.7°C in the uninsulated pipe, while the the outlet temperature in the pipes covered with insulation material in 1 cm, 4 cm and 10 cm thicknesses was 27.4°C, 31.1°C and 36.1°C, respectively. Besides, it was determined that the heat loss values of pipes covered with insulation material in 1 cm, 4 cm and 10 cm thicknesses decreased by 8.3%, 16.3% and 27.1%, respectively, compared to the uninsulated pipe. According to these results, it is aimed to increase the current production with the use of the developed method in the existing oil-geothermal production wells.
