Özet (EN)
Daha sonra doldurTurkish Modernization in the Republican Period in Peyami Safa In this thesis text, the Turkish Modernization process in the Republican Period is evaluated from the perspective of Peyami Safa, who witnessed the last period of the Ottoman Empire, which existed between 1899-1961, the First World War, and the subsequent transition from the empire to a new form of government, the Republic regime, the modernization movements, social change and transformation experienced in the process of building a modern nation state in the Republican Period, and beyond witnessing, he subjected the impact of this modernization process on both individuals and social life to a deep analysis. In this context, the concept of modernity and its historical development, the modernization process experienced by non-Western societies, how and from what perspectives the modernization movements that brought about social and cultural change affected the socio-cultural structure of the period were discussed. In the light of the thoughts of Peyami Safa, a writer who witnessed the Turkish Modernization process; the modernization movements experienced in our country, which is located at the intersection of the Asian and European continents and culturally between the Eastern and Western civilizations, the social, cultural, political and moral changes that modernization has created in Turkish society and the cultural ground on which this social change has occurred are discussed. While Peyami Safa argued that we should take the advanced culture and civilization of the West as an example, he also emphasized that Turkish Modernization should have its own identity and character. Safa, while evaluating the modernization of Turkish society, which is geographically and mentally located somewhere between Eastern and Western civilizations, did not prefer one of these two different cultures and civilizations to the other, and argued that both have different internal dynamics. The modernization of Turkish society, which is located between these two areas, will be successful as long as there is a meaningful synthesis of the complementary parts of these two cultures. In other words, ideal modernization is a meaningful synthesis of Eastern and Western civilizations. The important point here is to accept that it is important to consider modernization in the following context: "To create a meaningful synthesis not from the conflict of religion, language, culture and mentality differences between Eastern and Western civilizations, but from the similar and common aspects of the cultures of the two civilizations." Keywords: Modernization, Westernization, Cultural Change, Republican Period, Peyami Safa lacaktır.
