A review of Peyami Safa's stories

This study aims to examine the short stories of Peyami Safa, one of the important figures in Turkish literature. Although the author is better known in our literature for his novels, he has also produced noteworthy works in the short story genre. In this thesis, Peyami Safa's short stories are evaluated in terms of their structural features, thematic elements, cast of characters, use of time and space, and language and style. The study first provides a general overview of Peyami Safa's short stories, addressing structural elements frequently encountered in his stories, such as narrator types, plot, and the use of setting and time. The themes explored in the stories are identified and analysed, including topics such as the individual's inner world, psychological analyses, social criticism, and the conflict between tradition and modernisation. Furthermore, the author's linguistic and stylistic characteristics are evaluated, and the position of his stories in literary history is emphasised. The findings reveal that Peyami Safa constructs a powerful narrative in his stories that reflects the individual's inner world and the social structure. The narrative techniques used in the author's works, his psychological analyses, and his approach to social issues once again reveal his importance in Turkish literature. This study aims to contribute to the understanding of Peyami Safa's literary identity by examining his short stories in detail.
