Evil phenomenon in Peyami Safa's novels

The main objective of this thesis is to examine the phenomenon of evil discussed in different disciplines in Peyami Safa's novels. The study consists of three main chapters, except the "Introduction", "Conclusion" and "References". In the first chapter named "The Evil", in which the framework of the study is drawn, the evil and the concepts related to the evil are examined under the titles of "The Evil in Philosophy", "The Evil in Religion" and "The Evil in Psychology". The second part of the study, named "Life and Literary Personality of Peyami Safa", where the foundations of Peyami Safa were laid; important information about the period in which he lived is presented by giving information about his life, literary personality and novels. Peyami Safa's novels, which form the basis of the study, are examined through the phenomenon of the evil in the third chapter titled "Review". Under the first title "Examination of the People in Terms of the Evil"; the phenomenon of evil is examined in a chronological order through the characters and their relations with each other through good and opposing forces. Thus, the active role that the characters bring to evil is presented. Under the second title of the study, "The Roots of the Individual Evil", the evil is explained under the subheadings of "Desire", "Body", "Matter", "Will". Subsequently, under the title of "The Origins of the Social Evil", the evil that occur within the framework of social boundaries and the value judgments of these boundaries are examined through subheadings; "Civilization Crisis and Cultural Conflicts", "War", "Family Deprivation" and "Marriage and Infidelity". Later, the moral, social and psychological evil that occur with individual and social changes are examined under the subheadings of "Death" and "Illness", under the title of "Consequences of Evil and Punishment". Finally, under the title of "Evil's Constructing Through Space", the relation between venues and characters is examined around the phenomenon of the evil.
