To be able to keep up with the contemporary level of modern civilizations, it is neededto improve the quality of our education system. This is only possible by using the newtechnologies in education and generalizing these new technologies in greater masses.The Distance Learning (DL), providing the chance of accessing to various educationalsources with the appropriate use of communication technology to the people from differentplaces and culture who cannot attend to the formal education, has been becoming widespreadand also regarded as the education system of the future.In this study, the general description of the distance learning is given, the overallposition of distance learning in Turkey and the world is analyzed, and suggestions are proposedfor the dissemination of distance learning in Dumlupınar University and among the academics.The prerequisites for the distance learning courses are listed below:• Should be build the Corporate structure• The course curriculum determined by the academics should be prepared• Technical advisors responsible with the convertion of the determined course curriculumpreviously into the standard distance learning contents and visual richness• Learning Management SystemIn this study, it is mentioned about the structuring in other universites and also tests,experiments and proposals related with the LMS (Learning Management System) are included.For the LMS, the open source code Moodle software, which is used in over 150 countries andhas more than 70 language supports and sources, has been used. Also, it is written in thelanguage of open source code php script. Data base and operating system can workindependently from each other. Moreover, it is one of the best open source code coursewaresselected by UNESCO.Our basic purpose is to give the computer education, which is the fundamentalequipment in distance learning, through distance learning education. For this aim, experimentshave been done with the help of Moodle in the courses named `Basic Computer Knowledge andInformation Technologies? given in our institution and results statistics gathered are available inannex.Keywords: Distance Learning, Moodle, Mysql, Php.
