Olive pomace using aqueous solution of the adsorption method for removal of heavy metals

Abstract (EN)

In this study, olives and olive oil industrial waste, which by the method of adsorption of heavy metals removal from aqueous solutions using olive pomace was investigated. The effects of pH, temperature, adsorbent dosage, contact time and initial heavy metal concentration were investigation treatment removal of heavy metals (Lead(Pb), Cadmium(Cd), Chrome(Cr), Nickel(Ni), Copper(Cu) and Zinc(Zn)) with raw, chemically modified and activated olive pomace by adsorption process. With the increase of pH (from 2 to 6) and initial heavy metal concentration (from 5 to 100) the removal efficiencies of Pb, Cd, Cr, Ni, Cu and Zn was also decrease to % 80-99 to % 75-80, respectively but when ph was more than 6, chemical sedimentation was found for three types of olive pomace. The effects on the removal of heavy metals yields with temperature (from 20 to 60 0C) changes has not occurred. All heavy metals for contact time in the range of 10-15 min is provided and the maximum remove in the 2.5-4 range of pH. In the adsorption, variable of temperature 20 0C and the amount of adsorbent 0.5 g/100 mL was found. The maximum adsorption capacities (qe) were determined between 0.9 to 18.7 mg/g at initial concentrations between 5 to 100 mg/L for Pb, Cd, Cr, Ni, Cu and Zn in this study. The best removal of heavy metals in the adsorption with activated olive pomace was provided. The most suitable isoterms and kinetic were found to be Langmuir, Freundlich, Tempkin, BET and pseudo first kinetic under the optimum operation conditions in the activated olive pomace, respectively. The results show that, olive pomace material opens new door for various usage of the low cost adsorbents in different fields of application in the wastewater.
