A critical edition, translation and analysis of Pīrīzāde Ibrāhim's treatise: Al-i'lām fi al-muhimmāt al-shariyya min al-ahkām

Pīrīzāde Ibrahim was an important Hanafī scholar who lived in Mecca in the 17th century and served as a mufti. Pīrīzāde lived in a period when the Ottoman Empire began to weaken and various conflicts and troubles arose. In order to fight against these negativities with his pen, he wrote his treatise al-I'lām fi al-muhimmāt al-shariyya min al-ahkām. In this work, in order to emphasise the importance of ensuring justice, he included topics related to Islamic judicial procedure. In the treatise, which consists of five chapters, the first chapter is about 'adab al-muftī', the second chapter is about 'adab al-qāḍī', the third chapter is about 'litigation', the fourth chapter is about 'shahādat', and the fifth chapter is about 'taʿzīr'. A strict follower of the Hanafī madhhab, Pīrīzāda's treatise is based on a large number of Hanafī texts. Due to its rich source value and the important topics it contains, al-I'lām fi al-muhimmāt al-shariyya min al-ahkām is intended to be brought to the present day and to the world of scholarship by being analysed and translated.
