Examination of the relationship between mathematical literacy of secondary tenth students and 21st century skills in the context of PISA sample questions

Today, almost all technological devices are updated every week and new features are installed. In such an age, it has become indispensable for people to develop and renew themselves. In addition, with the technology developing day by day, success in the field of mathematical literacy has become more meaningful. The PISA application, which is organized to determine this success at the international level, helps to improve and develop education and training. The aim of this study was to evaluate the Mathematics literacy of middle school 10th grade students in terms of 21st century skills. For this purpose, this study was carried out with 396 volunteer students selected by random sampling method from Kepez district in Antalya in the 2022-2023 academic year. The study, which was planned as descriptive, was based on the relational survey model. In the study, "Multidimensional 21st Century Skills Scale" developed by Çevik & Şentürk to evaluate the 21st century skills of secondary school students, and "PISA 2012 Mathematical Literacy Questions" were used to determine mathematical literacy. Data analysis was done with SPSS program. In the study, the scale scores were calculated and the kurtosis and skewness coefficients were examined to determine the conformity of the scores to the normal distribution. Parametric test techniques were used in the study due to the normal distribution of the scores. At the same time, the Pearson correlation test was used in the relationship between the scores. In line with the results, it was concluded that there is a significant but weak relationship between mathematical literacy and 21st century skills.
