Özet (EN)
In this thesis, two types of compressors were experimentally used: a single-stage 5.016 kW and a double-stage 11.096 kW reciprocating compressor. The experiments were conducted at Tamsan Compressor Inc. in Ankara. Energy, exergy, economic, and environmental analyses were performed for both compressor types, considering five different ambient temperatures. The energy analysis included P-v diagrams, isentropic, polytropic, isothermal, and actual work calculations, and efficiency calculations. The energy analysis showed that actual work decreased as temperature increased for both single-stage and double-stage compressors, while polytropic, isentropic, and isothermal work increased. Furthermore, efficiency increased with increasing temperature for all phase changes. Exergy analysis revealed that single-stage compressors have a more advantageous exergy efficiency at low inlet temperatures, while exergy efficiency in double-stage compressors increases at higher temperatures, narrowing the performance gap. Exergy loss due to exergy destruction is higher for double-stage compressors than for single-stage compressors across all temperature ranges. According to economic analyses, double-stage compressors are thermodynamically more efficient at high pressure ratios and with a proper intercooler design; however, under the assumptions used in this study (engine power, CRF, φ, annual duration, etc.), a single-stage compressor is more cost-effective at all temperatures. For environmental analysis (prioritizing total environmental impact), a single-stage compressor is more environmentally advantageous at all temperatures. For sustainability analysis, both compressors show an increase in efficiency as temperature increases, but the single-stage compressor is observed to be more advantageous. This thesis first describes the definition and types of compressors. Theoretical analysis calculations were conducted in the calculation section. The data in these calculations were based on different ambient temperatures. The results obtained are presented in graphs and tables. When all energy, exergy, economic, environmental, and sustainability analysis results were evaluated together, it was determined that, under the operating conditions and assumptions used, the single-stage compressor is generally more advantageous across all temperature ranges, while the double-stage compressor provides certain thermodynamic efficiency increases only at high temperatures and high pressure ratios.
