Abstract (EN)

Helichrysum species belong to the Asteraceae family, in Turkey and in traditional medicine in the world; it has been used for centuries due to its biliary fluid enhancer, hepatoprotective, kidney stone expeling, spasmolytic, diuretic, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. It is sold as 'immortal flower and golden flower' in the market. The European Pharmacopoeia 8.0 does not contain any monographs of Helichrysum species; The WHO monograph contains only the monograph of the flower part of the Helichrysum arenarium. This study was conducted to prepare a monograph of the flowers of Helichrysum sp. based on the 'Flos Helichrysi arenarii' monograph in the WHO monograph. In this study, general information about botanical properties, chemical content, biological activity studies and usage of Helichrysum species were examined in detail.The similarity of the 20 immortal flower materials that is purchased from the market to the analyzes described in the European Pharmacopoeia 8.0 was investigated by reference to the 'Flos Helichrysi arenarii' monograph in the WHO monograph. Macroscopic and microscopic examinations, determination of foreign matter, loss of drying, determination of whole ash, volatile oil and HPTLC were performed on each immortal flower material. At the end of each experiment, the findings obtained from the immortal flower materials were compared with the criteria mentioned in other monographs and scientific articles, especially 'Flos Helichrysi arenarii' monograph in the WHO monograph. At the end of this study, monograph of dried flowers of Helichrysum sp. was prepared.
