Plato's Euthyphro and piety as a virtue

In my thesis, which is based on Plato's Euthyphro, which is about piety, who is said by Whitehead that the history of philosophy consists of footnotes written to him, I tried to analyze the dialogue through a dramatic approach, unlike the general Plato's readings. There must be a reason why Plato conveys his philosophical thoughts to his readers through dialogues instead of text. In this context, the purpose of my work is to show that religiosity cannot be defined on the basis of reasoning, with the freedom that dramatic reading also provides. In the introduction, different approaches to Plato's dialogues are given and it is said that dramatic reading will be taken as a basis. Again, in the introduction, anamnesis theory, the analogy of the divided line, and the cave allegory, which will form the basis of Plato's understanding of virtue, are examined. In the first chapter the conception of virtue in Ancient Greek was investigated in order to understand Plato's idea of virtue better, It was aimed to draw attention to the similarity of Socratic methods by giving summaries of the works of the first period, which were taken as Socratic dialogues. After the dialogues in which the virtues are discussed, the four basic virtues and the place of religiosity in them are discussed. In the context of the part-whole relationship, the unity of the virtues has been defended. The acquisition of virtue has been discussed from four different aspects through the initial question in the Meno: teaching virtue, the living state of virtue, the innate part of virtue, and "another way". In the second chapter, definitions of religiosity are examined through the Euthyphro. It was pointed out that the definition of religiosity could not be reached at the end of the dialogue. Finally, in the third chapter, the virtue of piety was read on the basis of a dramatic approach, based on all this information. It has been tried to be grounded in this way that virtue has a life aspect.
