Abstract (EN)

In the past 20 years, the far right has gained strength in stable democracies in Europe. The gaining power of the extreme right has affected not only Europe but the whole world. Among the main events affecting this rise are the terrorist attacks on the twin towers on September 11, 2001, the 2008 economic crisis, the 2009 Euro crisis, the attacks by terrorist organizations all over the world, and the disproportionate migration to Europe with the Arab Spring that started in 2010. The columnar system prevailing in the Netherlands collapsed with the millennium. After this collapse, the far right started to rise in the Netherlands with Pim Fortuijn, who entered politics in 2001. After Fortuijn's murder in 2002, Geert Wilders succeeded him. Until 2004, he was a Member of Parliament for the Freedom and Democracy Party for the People (Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie - VVD). After resigning from the VVD in 2004, Wilders became an independent MP and founded the Freedom Party (Partij voor de Vrijheid - PVV) in 2006. In this study will be analyzed, the rise of the far right in the Netherlands in the context of political psychology.
