Abstract (EN)

This PhD thesis -Feminist Humorous Discourse in Popular Culture Products- aims to examine popular culture products in terms of feminist discourses in the context of humorous texts. It focuses on the role and functions of humor, which includes critical and creative discourse dynamics as a tool of social opposition, through popular texts in terms of feminist perspectives. In this study, discourse is considered as a linguistic action that shapes thoughts and practices in daily life. In this context, the research, which is based on the view that the cultural field is an area of domination and struggle in the context of power, focuses on the themes of the feminist humorous discourse that emerges in popular culture products in which feminist perspectives are put forward and humorous forms are adopted linguistically and narratively. The humor magazine Bayan Yanı, 5harfliler.com and Çok da Fifi Hatunlar stand-up show, as three different popular texts that establish feminist discourse in Turkey through humor, were determined as samples and the texts were analyzed with the method of theoretical thematic analysis. In addition, respondent interviews were held with the producers of the content. The feminist humorous discourse created through these channels enables the deciphering of patriarchal discourses and practices and the establishment of counter-discourses with creative strategies; criticism of traditional patriarchal values in the context of religious-conservative values; body politics in the context of violence against women and impositions of body and beauty; masculinity and relations with men in the context of hegemonic discourses and practices, and the criticism of discourses on women in the context of women's body and sexuality. In addition, this discourse follows a parallel course with the current feminist movements and debates. Keywords: Popular Culture, Humor, Feminist Discourse, Feminist Humor, Feminist Media
