Abstract (EN)

This research has been made to investigate into the ways that the designer can reach its target audience and the album covers produced to be in better quality through analysis of album covers of popular music producing people's and bands' album covers, in terms of structural and content relations through visual perspective. In this researh, mainly, the covers of the pop music albums which are published in Turkey after 2000 years, have been investigated. The descriptions of popular culture have been done, the parallelism between popular music and culture has been tried to be betrayed. Also, the refletions of popular culture to music, social life and graphical degisn has been researched. The basic elements of graphical desing has been researched, and the visual problems of the album covers has been tried to be displayed in terms of typological rules and aesthetic concerns. The classical albums and their covers which have an important place in music history have been investigated and compared in with the album covers of today's popular culture. With the result of this analogy, the diffrences and the development process of cover degisns have been betrayed. The visual problems of cover design has been handled, the relationship between the employed materials, typografic and music type which forms the content of album has been researched. After annotating of the findings; the research problem's results has been determined; visual and formational problems on album covers have been betrayed and suggestions for solutions of these problems has been offered. VI The results of the research can be conluded like that : Most of the album covers are banal like came out of the same conveyor belt, humdrum and same. These covers are far away from aesthetic and content based concerns. Moreover, they are produced with the considiration of commercial concerns, fed with consuption culture and are feckless. Since, the albums and their covers reflects socialcultural structure of time period when they have been published, they serves as a document.
