Abstract (EN)
The main subject of this doctoral thesis is the postmodern narrative techniques used in Hilmi Yavuz's narratives and how they are handled within the text. The thesis consists of five main sections. The first chapter provides information about the history of postmodernism. It focuses on the emergence of this concept, its historical development, and how it has been received in world and Turkish literature. The second chapter discusses the evolution of literature, especially the novel genre, in the pre-postmodern period. It provides information about the narrative genre that emerged with postmodern literature. In particular, Hilmi Yavuz's thoughts on the 'narrative' genre, which is the subject of this study, are discussed. The thoughts of literary theorists such as Fredric Jameson, who had ideas about this period, are also presented. The third section examines Hilmi Yavuz's biography, literary personality, and works. The fourth chapter conveys how Hilmi Yavuz approaches the genre of 'narrative' in his narratives and what he thinks about this genre through quotations from his narratives. Yavuz's efforts to address the 'narrator problem,' which he considers a fundamental issue in his narratives, are explained through the concept of 'schizophrenia' in postmodernism. In the fifth and final chapter, the postmodern narrative techniques used in Hilmi Yavuz's narratives are illustrated with examples of intertextuality, parody, pastiche, and metafiction. Keywords: Postmodernism, postmodern narrative, schizophrenia, Hilmi Yavuz, postmodern narrative techniques.
