Özet (EN)

The present thesis concentrates on postmodernism and postmodern fiction in general and postmodern ?historiographic metafiction? in particular. Our initial aim is to show the place of ?historiographic metafiction? in the typology of postmodern fiction. We make the analysis of the postmodern ?historiographic metafiction? in two chapters. In the first chapter, the definitions of the term `postmodernism? are given and postmodernism and modernism are studied comparatively in terms of the socio-cultural and literary perspectives. Moreover, socio-cultural and literary implications are analyzed in detailed within postmodernism itself. In the second chapter, the term ?historiographic metafiction? is defined in relation to Linda Hutcheon?s critical masterpiece A Poetics of Postmodernism which mostly constitutes the centre of our attention. Moreover, historical novel from which ?historiographic metafiction? seems to emerge is mentioned and analyzed in this study. A comparative analysis of the novels ? My Name is Red, French Lieutenant?s woman, The Magus, England, England, Flaubert?s Parrot, A Tomb For Boris Davidovich ? is made in terms of the thematic, narrative and structural perspectives. At the end of the thesis we can reach the conclusion that ?historiographic metaficiton? is one of the few types of the postmodern fiction which has established itself as a patterned system of thematic perspectives, as well as an outstanding one with extraordinary, unconventional and unusual themes and narrative techniques
