Abstract (EN)

Introduction and Aim: The postpartum period involves significant physical and psychological changes, making women vulnerable to mental disorders. This study aimed to evaluate the nursing care needs of women at risk of postpartum depression using Meleis' Transition Theory to understand their transition into motherhood. Materials and Methods: A qualitative, phenomenological design was used. Participants were selected through criterion sampling. In the first phase, 151 women completed a Personal Information Form and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). In the second phase, 67 women scoring 13 or above were identified as at risk. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 women who met inclusion criteria and ensured data saturation. Results: Data were analyzed based on Meleis' Transition Theory. Findings were grouped under four overarching themes: nature of transition, transition conditions, responses to transition, and nursing care. Each theme included subthemes and direct participant quotes. The transition was found to be multidimensional, dynamic, shaped by individual differences. Conclusion: Postpartum transition among women at risk of depression includes physical, psychological, and social changes. Despite personal coping efforts, women experienced low self-confidence and loneliness. Societal norms and expectations increased emotional burden. The study emphasizes the importance of holistic, sensitive nursing care during this period.
