Özet (EN)
Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the affect of heavy metal exposure in the etiopathogenesis of premature ovarian failure. Materials and method: Between the dates 2014 and 2015, 35 patients who were diagnosed with Premature ovarian failure in İnönü University Medicine Faculty outpatient Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility clinic were included this study. 35 patients who were between 24-39 age-old, regularly menstruated and 35 patients who were naturally menopausal are also included the study. The patients' age, BMI, hormonal profiles, socio-economic status and serum cadmium levels were compared. Results: The difference between the groups about the gravida, parity, live birth ratio, breastfeeding time, serum FSH, LH and estradiol levels were statistically significant. There were no difference between the groups about age, abortion, BMI, marital status, menarche age, education status, settlement, cigarette and alcohol use, income rate, job, daily sedantary time spent, physical activity, oral contraceptive use, chronic disease, operation history, family history and chemotherapy/radiotherapy history. Cadmium levels were statistically significantly lower in POF group than the control groups. Conclusion: Although many studies have demonstrated negative effects of heavy metal exposure on the reproductive health, there is no evidence about the relationship between heavy metalş exposure and premature ovarian failure.
