Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACT: Activated carbon was prepared from Ferula Communis and chemically activated with phosphoric acid. The modified activated carbon was utilized for the removal of malachite green (MG) dye from simulated wastewater. Various operational parameters such as adsorbent dosage, solution pH, initial MG concentration and temperature were investigated. The results obtained were used to evaluate the adsorption isotherms and kinetics. After analyzing experimental data, the sorption process of MG dye was favored to be pseudo-second order kinetic and the equilibrium data fitted the Langmuir isotherm. In addition, the data predicts that the adsorption process is controlled by chemisorption process. The maximum adsorption capacity was found at 298 K (239.9mg/g). Activated carbon prepared from Ferula Communis can be an alternative precursor for commercial activated carbon production for the removal of dyes from industrial effluents.
