Investigation of the effects of krill oil intake on preprandial and postprandial conditions

Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted to examine the effects of krill oil on the body under preprandial and postprandial conditions. The study was conducted with 18 Wistar Albino (8-10 weeks old) male rats weighing 200-250 g. The care and feeding of the rats was done under standard conditions. After a one-week adaptation period, the rats were randomly divided into three groups and 6 animals were placed in each group. The first group is the control group and no procedure was applied. The 2nd and 3rd groups were given 2.5 g\kg of krill oil per animal by oral gavage method. The feed of the 2nd group was taken 2 hours before krill oil was given, and it was given again 2 hours after krill oil was given, allowing them to stay away from feed for 4 hours. In the third group, krill oil was given with food. The study continued for 40 days, and at the end of the study, the rats were sacrificed by taking blood from their functioning hearts while under anesthesia. With the samples taken, the lipid profile of the rats (Total Cholesterol, Triglyceride, HDL-C, LDL-C), blood glucose, liver enzymes (ALT, AST, GGT), muscle enzymes (CK-MB, Lactate Dehydrogenase), kidney function tests (Creatinine, BUN) and oxidant-antioxidant indicators (MDA, GSH, SOD) were examined. As a result of the analysis; giving krill oil under preprandial conditions; It was found to be more effective in increasing body weight and reducing triglyceride, cholesterol, HDL and LDL values. Taking krill oil in postprandial conditions; It has been shown to increase HDL levels and reduce glucose, BUN and AST levels. Considering these findings, krill oil can be used in preprandial or postprandial conditions both for protection and to support tissue stability with physiological and biochemical processes. More randomized controlled studies with larger samples are needed to more clearly monitor the effects of krill oil on blood biochemistry, oxidant-antioxidant balance and tissues.
