Abstract (EN)

Proximal femur morphology and measurement of femuroasetabular distanceIt is necessary to a surgeon who doing arthroplasty to be aware of the anatomy and morphometry of hip joint. Our study is a scanning study of Turkish People. 100 female and 100 male, ages between 20-50, who admitted to our policlinic in the last 6 months in Afyonkarahisar, were included in the investigation. People who included in the study were healthy and free of hip pathology according to their X-Rays. Images in PACS media were measured. Each individual`s hips were estimated as right and left separately and average values for right and left sides were found. In addition, bilateral measurements of each patient were evaluated thus we were enable to evaluate data from a total of 400 hips. Our exclusion criteria were; patients aren`t matching the range 20-50 years, patients who had osteoarthritis of the hip and who had previous surgeries of hip, acetabulum or pelvis, hip deformity due to first or second motor neuron damage, improper radiologic technique.4 Measurements were evaluated:1. The distance between greater trochanter and superior margin of acetabulum2. Femoral inclination angle3. Medial femoral offset4. The distance between greater trochanter and femoral head centre and location of the hip centre with respect to trochanteric tipThese measurements were made by two observers and intraobserver and interobserver consistency was evaluated statistically by T test and student`s T test.In males, the distance between greater trochanter and superior margin of acetabulum was found to be 28.52 ±SD 6.46 mm while in females it was 26.02 ±SD 5.46 mm. We think that this measurement can be used safely for evaluation of limb length inequality.51Femoral shaft-neck inclination angle was128.19 ±SD 5.08 degrees in males and 128.44 ±SD 5.16 degrees in femalesMedial femoral offset was 52.05 ±SD 6.53 mm in males and 45.08 ±SD 5.64 mm in females. The difference of medial offset values between males and females was striking.In males distance between greater trochanter and femoral head centre was found to be 9.93 ±SD 5.32 mm while in females it was 9.73 ±SD 4.77 mm. We found that femoral head center was below with reference to tip of greater trochanter.We think that our study gives some valuable information about proximal femoral geometry of Turkish community.
