The mediating role of problem solving skills in the relationship between psychological flexibility and psychological resilience

In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between the variables of psychological resilience, psychological flexibility and problem solving skills that significantly affect interpersonal relationships and the mediating role of problem solving skills in the relationship between psychological resilience and psychological flexibility. The study was conducted with a total of 494 students, 275 female and 219 male, aged between 14 and 18, who continue to study in different types of high schools in Keçiören district of Ankara province. In the study, "Psychological Flexibility Scale" was used to determine their psychological flexibility levels, "Psychological Resilience Scale" was used to determine their psychological resilience levels and "Problem Solving Scale" was used to measure their problem solving skills. Confirmatory Factor Analyses of the scales used in the study were performed with AMOS software, and the relationships between the variables in the model were determined by Pearson correlation analysis. In addition, Bootstrapp analysis was performed to determine the significance of the mediating effect of problem solving skills in the relationship between psychological flexibility and psychological resilience. As a result of the analyses, significant positive relationships were found between psychological flexibility, psychological resilience and problem solving. The mediating effect of problem solving skills on the relationship between psychological flexibility and psychological resilience was examined and it was found that problem solving skills had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between psychological flexibility and psychological resilience. The findings obtained were discussed in line with the relevant literature and various suggestions were presented.
