Expressionist portrait analyzes in the context of psychologial reflection

Expressionism has been the basis for defining the plastic arts and the spirit of the times since the end of the 19th century. Expressionism seems to be a movement of a close age, but its roots stretch back to the 16th century. The Industrial Revolution, the First World War, the machine-based production system has left a psychological destructive impact on societies and therefore the individual. It has emerged in Germany in the context of political instability and economic depression. Contains an anti-naturalist perspective against the realism and idealism of the 19th century in an understanding that aims to convey the anxieties, fears, joys and questions of the artist's inner world with distorted lines, shapes, exaggerated colors, deformed characters. Since the Renaissance, portraiture has been a proof that the individual has revealed his social status and has a strong past. After 1960, the concept of art has been a lot of outdoors and it has also created a crushing effect on the concept of classical portrait. Expressionist portraits in today's painting art have been the subject of this research with pictorial analysis in the context of psychological reflection. This study consists of four parts in total. In the first part, the definition of expressionism and the factors that prepare expressionism are examined. In the second part, the main artists of the development of expressionism are discussed. In the third chapter, the effect of psychological reflection on expressionist portraits is examined and in the fourth part, there are Expressionist portraits in the context of psychological reflection. This work is very important in terms of art history and plastic arts in the context of expressionist portrait. Along with many changing concepts, the subject of expressionist approach has also changed. The purpose underlying this study is to reveal the traumas experienced by the individual in today's changing system in the context of "Psychological Reflection" with plastic solutions.
