Abstract (EN)
This study aims to examine the musical terms used in the work Children's Album, Op. 39 by the Russian classical music composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It was conducted using a qualitative research method and adopted an exploratory approach. The study includes a documentary review of Tchaikovsky's life, musical background, and the Children's Album, Op. 39. In the analysis phase, data related to musical terms were examined systematically through content analysis. The scope of this research is limited solely to the examination of musical terms. It focuses on the identification and analysis of these terms; thus, elements such as instrumental techniques and harmonic structure of the work were excluded from the study. Upon analysis of Children's Album, Op. 39, it was observed that the work consists of 24 short piano pieces inspired by various stories, grouped under four main themes: "Toys", "Russian Songs", "Impressions of Travel", and "Fairy Tales". The most frequently used rhythm was 2/4, and the most common tempo marking was moderato. In terms of dynamic transitions, expressions such as crescendo, decrescendo, and diminuendo were frequently encountered, with nuances ranging from pianissimo to forte. Additionally, articulations such as legato and staccato were frequently used, contributing to the expressive power of the music. In conclusion, the study emphasizes how musical terms shape the structure of music and influence the emotional depth of the piece. Understanding and applying these elements correctly is significant for musical performance and interpretation. Therefore, future research focusing on the analysis of musical terms in different works using similar methods would be of notable value. This study is considered a valuable contribution to the music literature and music education, and a useful resource for researchers interested in Tchaikovsky's music.
