Abstract (EN)

Background: Quercetin is a flavanovid molecul been reported that its positive effects have been reported on the ischemia-reperfüzyon injury, anti- inflamatuar, antiviral, antialerjic, antitrombolitic, antiatherosclerotic, antitü- moral. Up to our best knowledge, its effect on the colonic anastomosis has not been known yet. In our study, we aimed to investigate the effect of quercetin on the colonic anastomosis.Methots: Twenty-eight Wistar-albino rats were used in the study. Excluding the seven animals that constituded the control, the rest of the animals were divided in tree groups: Quercetin group (study group1), colonic anastomosis group (study group 2), and quercetine+colonic anastomosis group (study group3). Colonic resection and anastomosis were done in the study group 2 and 3. anastomotic assessment was done at the fifth postoperative day. Gross anas- tomotic healing, mechanical strength, and histopathological healing indices were used for the assessment. Results: There was a significant difference regarding the anastomotic pressure values between the control group at the colonic anastomosis group. İn addition to this finding, there was no difference between the colonic anastomosis group and the study group, which has been performed colonic anastomosis after the quercetin was applied (p=0.054). Meanwhile, there was a significant differ- ence between the study group which has been only performed colonic anasto- mosis and the study groub which has been performed colonic anastomosis after the quercetin was applied (p<0.05).Conclusion: The present study has reported that the application of quercetin may provide a positive benefit on the healing of colonic anastomosis. To confirm these data, these findings require further studies in this subject.
