Abstract (EN)

Aim: To investigate the effect of intrauterine devices used for contraception on ovarian reserve and to detect their positive or negative affects. Materials and Methods: The first 45 volunteers in the early follicular phase who gave birth before and who preferred to use a copper-containing intrauterine device for contraception were included in the study after obtaining their informed consents. Before the intrauterine device was applied, blood samples were taken for AMH, INHB, FSH and E2, and demographic data such as age, menstrual cycles and anamnesis were taken. After the intrauterine device was applied, transvaginal ultrasonography was performed for antral follicle count (AFS) and to check the localization of the intrauterine device. The same procedures were repeated 3 months later and compared with the data at the time of application. Serum samples were stored at -80 o C until the day of study. The "competitive enzyme linked immune sorbent assay" method was used to determine FSH and E2 levels, and the "the sandwich enzyme linked immune sorbent assay" method was used to measure AMH and INHB levels. Results: When the data at the time of intrauterine device application (0 month) and control (3rd month) were compared, the decrease in the AMH level and the increase in the E2 level were found to be statistically significant. There was no statistically significant difference in FSH and INHB levels. The decrease in AFS was found to be significant. Although there was no significant change in the cycle duration and the number of pads changed per day. It is observed that the bleeding time increased statistically significant. Conclusion: Copper intrauterine devices (IUD) used for contraception and may decrease in AMH and AFS. This shows that copper IUDs have an effect on ovarian reserve tests in the early period. Keywords: AMH, INHB, FSH, E2, AFS
