A review of Ralph Vaughan-Williams' "Songs of Travel" song cycle

The aims of this thesis are respectively to include composer Ralph Vaughan-Williams and his creation "Songs of Travel" song cycle in Turkish literature; to provide a new approach to the question of the integrity of the cycle by making the Turkish translation of the poems in the work, to determine the dramaturgical elements and to analyze the protagonist character; and to be a source and guide for future studies by pointing the past academic studies. At the same time, with a limited dramaturgical approach it is aimed to clarify the reorder by the composer of the poems in the book "Songs of Travel and Other Verses" written by Robert Louis Stevenson for the aforementioned cycle. In the first chapter, the life of Ralph Vaughan-Williams, his education and his approach to vocal music are discussed. In the second part, Robert Louis Stevenson's life, education, and his book "Songs of Travel and Other Verses" are discussed. In the third chapter, the structure of the song cycle "Songs of Travel" is discussed, and the translations and explanations of the poems are made. In the conclusion part, a staging proposal that strengthens the literary and musical aspects of the cycle is presented based on the elements determined in the previous sections.
