Investigation of the effect of Rosa canina L. (Rosehip) extract on cisplatin-induced acute nephrotoxicity damage in rats

Abstract (EN)
Cisplatin is an antineoplastic cancer drug. Nephrotoxicity, hepatotoxicity and ototoxicity are main side effects. The reason for the side effects is the deterioration of the oxidant and antioxidant balance. In our study, it was aimed to investigate the effect of ethanolic extract obtained from rosehip (Rosa canina) fruit, which has rich polyphenolic content and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, on cisplatin-induced-nephrotoxicity. 5 experimental groups (control, cisplatin, high-dose (400 mg/kg) rosehip, Cis+high-dose (400 mg/kg) rosehip and Cis+low-dose rosehip (200 mg/kg), that contain 7 rats in each group) was established. During the 11-day feeding period, SF for the control group, i.p single dose Cisplatin (7.5 mg/kg) on the 5th day of the experiment, orally rosehip extract to the rosehip group throughout the experiment, and cisplatin (5th day single dose) and orally rosehip extract to the treatment groups were given. All groups were sacrificed on 12th day. BUN, CREA, TAS, TOS in blood and MDA, SOD, CAT, IL6, TNF-α, TAS and TOS parameters in kidney tissue homogenates were measured. Significant differences were observed between the groups except TOS tissue and TAS serum. BUN, tissue TAS, serum TOS, MDA, SOD, TNF-α, IL-6 values were found to differ significantly (p<0.05) between the cisplatin group and especially the high dose rosehip group. Kidney damage of cisplatin and preventive effect of rosehip were confirmed by histopathological analysis. Especially high cisplatin + high dose rosehip was found to be more effective histopathologically As a result, it was concluded that rosehip extract has a protective effect against cisplatin-induced nephrototoxicity.
