Abstract (EN)
Refik Halid Karay, as banished within his homeland and to foreign countries, lived in exile for 25 years. Having sent into exile to Sinop, Çorum, Ankara, and Bilecik, he was exiled to Beirut, in Lebanon, Aleppo, in Syria. Indeed, during his stay in these different regions, he experienced extreme difficulties that paved the way to physical and spiritual change. It is easy to see the effects of what he faced and witnessed, even in his chronicles and journals that were written long after he returned to his homeland. The reflection of the second period in exile is clear in Karay's short stories and novels as well. The plot in Yezidin Kızı, Sürgün, Dişi Örümcek, Yeraltında Dünya Var and Gurbet Hikâyeleri takes place in locations he lived in exile. In this study, the author's second exile years are traced under the title of Arabs and Arab Culture in the works of Refik Halid Karay.
